Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed-June 14, 1911.
Patented Feb.20, 1912. Serial No. 633,024.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OLE FERGUSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Porter, in the county of Yellow Medicine and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and Improved Stamp, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to stamps, and more particularly relates to egg stamps, and has for an object to provide a stamp so constructed and arranged that it will fit in the hands of the user and as the latter picks up an egg and brings it in contact with the stamp on the palm of his hand, it will make an impression upon the egg to indicate when the egg was gathered or marketed.
A further object of my invention is to provide a structure adapted to conform to the curvature of the egg as it rests in the palm of the hand.
A. further object is to provide a stamping device of this character, so arranged that the stamp may be changed at will, to indicate different dates and other data.
With the above and other objects in view, as will more fully hereinafter appear, the present invention consists in certain novel details of construction and arrangement-s of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of my invention applied to a hand and showing the stamped egg; Fig. 2 is an inside view of my stamp, the parts being laid open; Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 but showing the reverse side, an outer flap being broken away to show the type case; Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 41 of Fig. 2 and looking in the direction of the arrow; and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the type case.
In the several figures, I have shown a hand section 6 adapted to conform to the palm section of the hand and extending along the wrist where it is fastened by means of a wrist band 7 encircling the wrist and fastened in position by means of strap-andbuckle connections 8. The palm portion 6 is fastened to the hand by means of a strapand-buckle connection 9 extending between the thumb and first finger and meeting on the back of the hand. By this construction, the device in no way interferes with the working of the fingers and thumb. The hand portion comprises two superposed layers, the outside layer 10 having a recessed portion 11 into which recessed portion projects the type 12, said type carried on a pad 13, which type is supported in a type case 14. The type case 14 comprises a plate 15, to each end of which is hinged the cover 16, which cover is held in closed position by means of a rod 17 passing through alined beads 18 formed by curling the end of the plate 15 opposite the hinged end. Disposed in the aperture 19 between the alined beads, is the out-curled end 20 of the cover 16. It is seen that this cover fits over the type, holding the same firmly in position, but by withdrawing the rod 17 the cover 16 may be raised to the position shown in Fig. 5 and other type substituted for the type therein shown. Covering the type case and forming a backing for the under portion, is a second covering piece 21.
While a preferred embodiment of the invention has been described, it is to be understood that many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely different embodiments of this invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof.
It is intended that all matters contained herein in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawings, shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense. It is also to be understood that the language used in the following claims is intended to cover the full scope of the invention and is not to be given any narrower construction than the prior art demands, and that materials, sizes and relativities of parts are non-essential, except as called for in the claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
In an egg stamp adapted to be carried by the hand, means fastening said stamp to the hand, said stamp having an aperture there In testimony whereof I have signed my in, a stamp case, said stamp case having an name to this specification in the presence of aperture therein in alineinent With the apertWo subscribing Witnesses.
ture in the stamp, removable type carried OLE FERGUSON. by said case and adapted to project through Witnesses: said alined apertures, and a cover to said GEORGE V. ENGSTROM, case adapted to hold said type in position. JAG BRYNILDSEN.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, I C.
