Description
tnted garnet PHILIPP SHREYER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Letters Patent No. 101,770, Zaled April 1l, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN MONEY-SAFES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, PHILIPP ScHnErnu, ot the city of N ew York, iu the county and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Money-Safe; and I do hereby declare that the followingl is a full, clear, andexact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference' being had to the accompanying drawings forming' part of this specification.
Figure l represents avert-ical central section of my improved money-safe.
Figure 2 is a horizontal section of the sume, taken on the plane ot' the line x x, lig. 1.
Figure 3 is a horizontal section of the same, taken on the plane of theline y y, fig. l.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
'lhs invention relates to a new manncr of constructing iron safes, and to a novel method of applying the same to articles of furniture.
The invention consists, first, in so constructing a safe of an outer and inner metal case, that the two cases are only connect-ed by a bolt or bolts passing through their bottoms no other fastening being required. I
The invention consists also in constructing such safes so that they can be applied as supports or standards to tables, scribed.
A in the drawing represents the outer shell or case of my improved metal safe.
It is iliade of cylindrical, prismatic, or of other suitable form, with vertical sides, and is open at both ends.
The entire shell is to be made of one single piece of metal.
In the shell A are secured two rings, a and l), one near the upper and the other near thelower end, as shown in tig. l.
These rings are riveted or otherwise securely tixed in their respective places.
B is the inner shell or case of the safe. as long as the outer case` but of smaller cross-section or diameter.
Close to its upper end is firmly secured around the case B a ring .or projecting flange, c.
IWhen the case B is inserted in the out-cr shell A,
as hereinafter more fully (le- It is about it is suspended iu the latter by its fiange c, which rests upon the ring a, as shown.
The ring a serves not only to support thc oase B, but also to close the upper. end of the annular' space d, which is formed between the two cases as shown.
For this purpose an inward-projecting supportingange, e, may be formed on the ring a, as shown.
Within the case B is secured, at the lower end, an inward-projectingring, f, which serves to support the upper bottom C.
'lhe lower. bottom D is placed against the lower edge of the ringb.
The case A is placed upon a plate, E, which forms the supporting bottom ot' the entirerapparatus.
Suitable legs F sustain the plate E.
A bolt, G, having a head, g, to lit under the lower bottom D, and passing the plates C and E, as shown, to receive nuts'h and t at both ends, serves to lock all the parts firmly together, and constitutes the sole fastening device. It also holds the bottoms against their several supporting-rings Two or more such bolts may be used if desired.
The npp'er end ot' the inner ease is closed either se curely by a plate or by the removable door and lock H. The door may, however, be arranged in the side ofthe safe, in which case it would constitute part ot' the two shells.
Non-l1eat-conducting material is put into the space between the shells and bottoms.
A projecting ring, T, made of wood or other material, may be fastened to the upper part ot' the safe, to serve as a table-top. The safe will, in that case, form the standard or support of the table.
Having thus described my invention,
1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The safe constructed of the shells A and B and bottoms C, D, and E, all parts being connected by means of boltsl (i, passing through the bottom, as set forth.
2. The money-safe and table, formed ot' the ring T and legs F, shells A and B, bottoms C D E, and bolt G, all constructed and fitted together iu the manner' shown and described.
\Vitl1esses: I HILIPP SCHREYER.
GEO. W. Manen, Y ALEX. F. Rolsnn'rs.
