Description

UNITED STATES Parrinaromnes.
JAMES A. DODD, OF MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA.
ROLLER-TRUCK.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES A. Donn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Muskogee, in the county of Muskogee and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Roller-flrucks, of which the following is a specification.
An object of the invention is to provide a roller truck part-icularly adaptable for use on printing presses and the like for adjusting the roller relatively to the frame of the press.
Among other features my invention embodies a flanged body adapted to engage an end of the roller and having an end thereof threaded, a locking nut threadedly engaging the said body, a second locking nut threadedly engaging the body and a beveled roller screw-threadedly mounted on the body between the said locking nuts, the roller being adapted to operate on a beveled` portion of the frame so that when the locking nuts are adjusted together with the beveled roller, the roller stock of the printing press will be relatively adjusted.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views and in which- Figure 1`is a side elevation of a portion of a printing press showing my device applied thereto. Eig, 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 in Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the views, I provide a tubular body 10 having a circular flange 11 integrally formed at one end thereof, the other end of the body 10 being provided with threads 12. Threadedly mounted on the body 10 are' a plurality of similar locking nuts 13 and threadedly engaging the body 10 between the locking nuts 13 is a beveled roller 14, the bevel of the said roller being preferably formed at an angle of 45 to the horizontal axis of the body. The body 10 is provided with a projecting portion 15 adapted to receive an end of a roller stock 16 and the beveled roller 14 is adapted to operate over a beveled frame 17 of a printing press. ,/f"
In the operation of my device, when the roller stock changes slightly in cross sectional area, owing to the tendency of the roller Specification of Letters Patent.

to shrink when it becomes slightly dry, the beveled roller 14 can be adjusted on the body 10 and the locking nuts 18 can be operated to rigidly lock the roller on the body 10, suitable wrenches being` used for this purpose. vIt will be readily understood that when the roller 14 is adjusted on the body 10 and relatively to the beveled frame 17, the roller stock 16 will be adjusted relatively to the frame of the printing press and by simply manipulating the locking nut-s 13 and the roller 14, any desired adjustment of the roller stock 16 can be quickly obtained, it being understood that the flange 11 operates over a flange on the press to properly guide the roller 14.
It will be readily seen that my device can be applied to various makes of printing presses and that any suitable form of wrench can be employed in adjusting the beveled roller and the locking` nuts.
Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new, is
1. In a device of the class described a tubular body adapted to receive a roller stock therethrough and provided with screw threads on the periphery thereof, a beveled roller mounted to threadedly engage the said tubular body and operable over t-he screw threads thereof and means operable over the screw threads on the said body for adjusting the said roller relatively to the said body.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination of a tubular body having a circular guide flange integrally formed at one end thereof, the other end of the said body being threaded, a plurality of locking nuts threadedly mounted on the said body and spaced apart, and a beveled roller threadedly -engaging the said body between the said locking nuts, the said roller being operable on the said body and adapted to be rigidly positioned on the body by the said locking nuts, the said roller being adapted to operate-on the beveled frame of a printing press.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
