Description
G. B. STACK. PUBLIC DRINKING FOUNTAIN. APPLICATION FILED 111111115. 1911.
Patented Feb16,-1912.
UNITED STtA'TtTES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE B. STACK. OF SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA.
PUBLIC DRINKING-FOUNTAIN.
1 b ((77 "IF/Z0177, it may a-mm lie it known that l. Gnonon I Suck. a
citizen ol the United States. residing at Sacramento. in the county of Sacramento and Htatc of California, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Public- Drinking-Fountains. of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to public drinking fountains and has for one of its objects the provision of a regulator valve to control the flow from themouth piece that is so placed that it cannot be tampered with by mis chievous persons.
Another object of my invention is the provision of an improved construction of tubular connections for the purpose stated.
Another object of my invention is the- .of a tubular standard 1 having a bowl 2 secured to its uppper end and a waste connection # 3 coupled to its lower end and secured to the wall plate l. The water pipe is also secured to the plate 4 and extends into the side of standard 1 and coupled to the mouth piece connection by means of elbow The mouth piece connection consists of a pipe 6 interiorly threaded at its two ends, and also exteriorly threaded on its lower end to engage elbow 5.
7 indicates a tubular valve seatengaging the ii'iterior-threads in the lover end of pipe 5 and having its interior threaded to receive a hollow threaded plug 8 with late'allv extending openings 0. The upper end of plug 8 is closed and formed with a' transverse groove 10 to receive a screw driver or other sultable instrument (not shown) to turn the plug, it being under- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 6.1912.
l-lpplication filed June 18. 1911. Serial No. 633,544.
desired to cut oil the flow. while by unscrewing the plug the size of the. holes may be enlarged. Furthermore as the plug 8 can bciurncd only by inserting an instrument into the tube from above, and' the character of the instrument is controlled by the size of the orifice of the mouth piece, to be hereinafter described, the possibility of the t'ountain being tampered with by unautl'iorized persons is extremely remote. The mouth piece consists of a tubular plug 11 engaging the interior threads in the upper end of the pipe 6, the size of the orifice ot' the tubular plug 11 determining the width of the tool or implement. that may be used to turn the plug 8 as hereinbefore stated.
12 indicates a hand controlled valve to turning the water otl and on as it is to be used.
In use the plug 8 is set to limit the flow or tubular plug 11 is drunk by catching it in the month without necessitating the use of a drinking cup, and without touching the lips to the mouth piece or plug 11. The waste water is caught by the bowl 2 and directed into the standard 1 from whence it flows into thewaste water connection 3. lVhen the fountain is not in use the valve 12 is closed. but should it be left ien either intentionally or unintentionally he water will be carried oil as fast asjt" flows from the mouth piece. i i
Having thus described my invention what- I claim is In a public drinking fountain the combination of a water supply pipe. a tubular i'nouth piece connection secured to the delivery end of the supply pipe, the ends of said connection being interiorly threaded. a tubular valve seat having exterior threads engaging the threads in the mouth piece connection adjacent to the water supply pipe, the interior of said valve seat also being threaded, a hollow valve having ex terior threads engaging the threads in the interior of the valve seat and also provided with laterally extending openings, the tipper end of the valve being closed and provided with a groove to receive an implement fofitiirhi-hg it, and a tubular mouth piece In testimony whereof 1 hereto uflix my hgvindg BXUIBIIiOI' threads engaging the signature in the presence of two wltnesses.
-t rea s on t e interior/ofthe other end of P the mouth piece connection, theorifice of GEORGE STACK 5 said mouth piece being restricted and seri Witnesses: ing to limit the thickness of the implement EMIL BAYER,
used to adjust the 'v'alve plug aforesaid. M. S. VVAHRHAFTIG.
