CURTAIN-POLE.

Be it known that I, CLARA SOHINKE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Poles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to curtain poles, and the objects of my invention are to obviate the necessity of using rings and safety pins for attaching curtains to a pole, and to furnish a pole with simple and eflective means, as will be hereinafter set forth, for holding the upper ends of curtains within the pole, whereby the pole will present a neat and attractive appearance.

Further objects of my invention are to provide a sectional curtain pole that is inexpensive to manufacture, and to afford means for holding the sections of the pole together in such a manner that they can be separated when it is desired to remove the upper ends of the curtains from the pole.

\Vith the above and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.

Reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the curtain pole partly broken away and partly in section, Fig. 2 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional view of a portion of the pole, Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken on the line IIIIII of Fig. 2, and Fig. at is a similar view taken on the line IVIV of Fig. 2.

A pole in accordance with this invention comprises two shells 1 and 2 adapted to be placed together to provide a tubular structure. The shell 1 forms the greater part of the structure and the shell 2 the remaining part, the said shell 1 forming approximately five-eighths of the periphery of the pole and the shell 2 approximately three- Speeification of Letters Patent.

The shell 1 has one edge thereof cut away, as at 3 to provide a longitudinal slot 4 in conjunction with the edge of the shell. 2, said slot being of less length than the pole. The slot 4: is adapted to receive the upper ends 5 of curtains 6 and the upper ends of said curtains are placed upon curved pins or hooks 7, carried by the inner side of the shell 2. The pins or hooks 7 are equally spaced throughout the length of the shell 2 and said hooks or pins project away from the slot 4, whereby the upper ends of the curtains 6 cannot become accidentally displaced from said hooks or pins.

The ends of the shells 1 and 2 are exteriorly screw threaded, as at 8 to receive caps 9 having ornamentations 10. The caps 9 retain the shells 1 and 2 together and permit of said shells being separated when it is desired to remove the upper ends 5 of the curtains 6. The type of the threads used in connection with the ends of the shells 1 and 2 and the caps 9 permit of said shells and caps being made of a vitreous material, although strong and durable material can be used in the make up of said pole.

From the foregoing it is apparent that the fastening means of the upper ends of the curtains is concealed and that the pole will present a neat and attractive appearance in connection with a window, door or alcove frame. The fastening means within the pole permits of the upper ends of the curtains being suitably draped, and as the hooks or pins are closely arranged, the upper ends of the curtains will be firmly held.

\Vhat I claim is A curtain pole comprising a pair of segmental shells of semi-cylindrical shape in cross section and one having its cross sectional length greater than the other, said shells abutting to provide a cylindrical body, that shell having a greater cross sectional length cut away at one end to provide in connection with the opposing end of the drical body, and caps mounted upon the 10 other shell a longitudinally extending slot threaded end of said shells.
