UNITED STATES, PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE c. Limos, or NEWYORK, N. Y.
CIGAR-HOLDER AND ASH-RECEPTACLE.
Be it lmown that I, GEORGE O. LYNoH, of the city of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new'and useful Improvements in Cigar-Holders and 'Ash- Receptacles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact de scription of the invention, such as will en able others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the .same.
My invention contemplates an improved cigar holder and ash receptacle preferably made of brass and of ornamental design and adapted to constitute an article of furniture for use in houses, clubs, etc.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of an article constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view.
Referring to the drawing l designates a base or pedestal which is hollow at its central portion and equipped with a hinged door 2 opening downward as indicated in dotted lines. Surrounding its central hollow portion the base is weighted as by steel rings3 to insure a firm support.
4 designates the tubular column or post extending upward from the, base and in alinement with the hollow portion of the latter, and supporting at its top the cigar holder 5, the latter having a central aper ture registering with the tubular post. I-
have shown the holder 0 provided with a wire frame 6 tending toprevent the accidental dropping of cigars into the holder and also allowing means for removing ashes from burning clgars. I have also shown the holder equipped with a transverse bridge 7 having cigar receptacles 8 formed therein and constituting a support for a ,match receptacle, which latter is preferably constructed in accordance with Letters Patent No. 947,666, issued to In use the article, preferably of ornamental brass and of approximately the height of the average desk or table, may be moved Specification of Letters iatent.
Application filed' January 6, 1911. Serial No. 691,217.:
me January 25th,
to "any desired place as customary with articles of this nature, but upon dropping.
ashes, -matcli'es or burned cigars into the holder 5, the latter, instead of retaining them, simply acts as a hopper to conduct them into the tubular post tthrough which they fall to the receptacle in the base or pedestal, and from which they may be removed'subsequently through the door 2.
It is obvious that the article may be used for some time without necessitating emptying and th at under normal condition the ashes and burned cigars within the receptacle will. be so far removed from the cigar holder that then odor cannot occaslon annoyance.
The construction of the base is such that it will withstand considerable jar without falling over. Even if it should fall the ashes would not be spilled upon the floor or carpet.
I claim as my invention 1. As .an article of manufacture, a combined cigar holder and ash receptacle, comprising a hollow closed base orvpedestal adapted to rest upon a floor and having a door in its underside, a hollow post extending upward from said base to a point within reach of a user, and a cigar holder support ed 'by said post and having an aperture through which ashes, etc, may pass to said "post and pedestal.
2. As an article of manufacture, a combined cigar holder and ashreceptacle, com
prising a hollow closed base or pedestal weighted at its edge and equipped with a door in its under side, a hollow post extending from said base, a cigar holder supported by said post and having an aperture n line with said post, and a'match receptacle on said holder.
' In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
