ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDMUND SCHULTE AND JOSEPH WEITE, JR, OF YONKERS, NEW YORK; SAID SCHULTE ASSIGNOR TO SAID WEITE.
CIGAR, CIGARETTE, AND MATCH HOLDER AND ASH-RECEIVER.
Specification of Letters Yatent.
Patented Jan. 11, 1921.
Application filed July 12, 1919. Serial No. 310,513.
s New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar, Cigarette, and Match Holders and Ash-Receivers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to smokers appliances, having more particular reference to a combination stand and receptacle for holding ashes, matches or partly smoked cigars or cigarettes.
v The invention has for an object to provide a device of this kind in which increased facility of use is combined with pleasing appearance.
A further object is to provide a novel form of ash receptacle having an easily operated ash discharging device.
For further comprehension of the invention, and .of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a horizontal sectional view of a device embodying the invention, the view being taken on the line 1--1 of Fig. 2. o i
Fig. 2 is a central verticalsectional view.
Fig. 3 is a detail horizontal section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is-ja horizontal section on the line 4--4 of Fig; 2.
The device as here shown comprises a combination stand and receptacle consisting of an upper main member or element 1 and a lower main member or element 2 joined together by a short constricted, cylindrical portion or neck 3.; These parts are of circular form in plan view, the lower member curving convexly upwardly from a base ring 4 in which it is" mounted, and which is provided with the ornamental feet 5, while the uppermember is in the form of an inverted bell and curves concavely upward from the neck 3.
Supported in the open upper end of the bell 1 is a ring 6 having a series of se notches 7 cut in the top thereof, t is ring ental' having a pair of parallel bars 8 extending thereacross and supporting a central circular wall 9, thereby forming a socket to receive a cup 10 adapted to hold burnt matches or the like and having an outwardly flaring top portion 10. The bars 8 also support a second ring 11 spaced inwardly from the ring 6 the ring 11 and bars 8 forming a sort of grille across the top of the bell 1.
At one side of the lower member 2 the wall thereof is pressed to form a rectangular indenture 12 adapted to form a socket to hold a match box, a spring clip 13 being' located in this socket, the front whereof is formed by an ornamental face piece 14 projecting up from the wall of the member 2.
The member 2 is formed with a downwardly and centrally sloping bottom 15 having a flanged opening 16. Supported by the bottom 15 and extending across the opening 16 is a cross bar 17 from which a hollow post 18 extends upwardly, this post forming a guide for the lower end of a rod 19to which the opening 16.
The upper portion of this red is offset and extends upwardly through a vertical slot in the wall 9 and has an outturned 6 the ashes falling down into the lower memher 2. .To discharge the ashes from the device it is only necessary to lift the conical cover 20, permitting the ashes. to drop.
through the opening 16.
As will be apparent we have combined features of utility with pleasing appearance,
I the arrangement of the notched ring and inside ring being such as to serve a useful function while at the same time presenting an ornamental top, while with the outline of the body of the device, in addition to the ornamental value thereof, the match holder is disposedentirely within the confines of said body.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A device of-the class described, comprising a receptacle having a bottom inclining downwardly from the sides toward a central opening, a conical stopper closing said opening, and means for moving said stopper is secured a conical stopper or cover 20 for toward or away from the said opening in a direction at right angles to the plane thereof,
2. A device of the class described, comprising a receptacle havinga bottom incliningdownwardly from the sides toward a central opening, a conical stopper closing said opening, and means for moving said stopper toward or away from the said opening, said means comprising a rod to which said stopper is fixed, said rod extending up; wardly through. the top of the receptacle.
3. A. device of the class described, comprising a receptacle having a bottom inclin ing downwardly from the sides toward a central opening, a conical stopper closing said opening, and means for moving. said stopper toward or away from the said open- 1 ing, said means comprising a rod to which said stopper is fixed, said rod extending up wardly through the top of the receptacle, and guiding means applied to the upper and lower ends of said rod.
In testimony whereof we have afiixed our signatures.
