NAPETERS. PHoT-LITHDGRAPHER WASHINGTON D C UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
H. F. BAILE,Y,VOF AMSTERDAM, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN TABLETS FOR TOMBS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 101,567, dated April 5, 1870.`
' Q To all whom t may concern: v
Be it known that I, H. F. BAILEY, of Amsterdam, in the county of Montgomery, and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tablets for Tombs; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, 'and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specilication.
The nature of my invention consists in the formation of an air and water tight joint for monumental tablets, 85o., as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art 4 to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure l is a front view of a tablet; and Fig. 2 is a section ofthe same, showing the air and water tight joint.
A represents the outside shell or frame, made of any desired dimensions and` shape. This frame is formed in such a mannerthat there will be a recess at B, as shown in Fig. 2, on the inside, all around the inner edge of the frame. The glass C is then placed against the inner edges a of this recess, the glass being of such size as to leave a space between its edges and the outer and inner sides ofthe recess. Some suitable kind of cement, D, is then poured in, so as to fill completely the resired.
cess B, and also the space around the edges of the glass anda short distance on the back of the glass. The inner casing E is then laid on the back of the glass, and soldered to the frame A at the joint b, which is formed with a rabbet,
as shown. The chamber Gr thus formed, between the glass C and the inner casing E, becomes perfectly air and water tight, as the only places where the air or Water could gain access are at a and b but the joint at a is cemented and the one at b soldered, and consequently neither air nor water can possibly gain any access into this chamber.
0n the inner casing E, within the chamber G, may be placed any inscription, design, ornament, picture, flowers, &c., that may be de- The, tablet is then secured to the stone by any suitable means.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the frame A with casing E, glass C, space G, and boX D, into which the glass is inserted, witha cement bed on each side and on its top, all substantially as set forth. v
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 4th day of February, 1870.
