IMPROVEMENT IN HORSESHEING-TOOL.

The Schedule referred to in these Lettera Patent and making part of the same To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ROBERT STOUT, of Matteawan, in the county of Dutchess and State of New York,v have invented a new and useful Improvement in Colubined Tool; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exactdescripton thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to makeand use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, iu which the gure is a side view of my improved instrument when folded up for carriage, aud showing in dotted lines the position of' the parts when extended.

My invention has for itsvobjec-t to furnish an improved combined tool, designed especially to be carried by those driving horses, for convenience in fastening their shoes, or removing stones or other substances that may have lodged in their feet; and

1t consists in the combined tool constructed as hereinafter more fully described. v

A represents the handle of the tool, which is made in two parts, hinged or jointed to each other, as shown in the igure. Y

To the free end of one arm of the handle A- is securely attached a hammer-head, B, made with a claw for drawing nails, so as to be similar to the head of -an ordinary nail hammer.

' Upon thefree end of the other arm of' the jointed handle A is formed a hook, C, so arranged that when A the jointed handle is closed up the hook C may close over the hamn'icr-head B, as shown in the gure, so that the instrumentmay be conveniently carried in the-pocket.

D is a spring, one end of which` is pivoted or otherwise secured to one arm of the hinged` o r jointed handlc A, and its other end has a pin attached to it, which, when the handle is opened out, may be dropped into a hole in the other part, at or near the hinge, to secure the said parts of the handle in place and prevent it from shutting up while the tool is being used. j WVhen the tool is shut up for carriage, the catch-pin may be dropped into a hole formed to receive it, so as to be out ot' the way.

\Vith this tool the driver can draw or drive a nail, as may be necessary, o1' remove stones, snow-balls, or

other obstructions .from the horses feet, as he may have occasion.

Having thus described my invention,

I claim as new and desire. to secure by Letters Patent- Au improved tool, formed bythe combination of the hinged or jointed handle A, hammer-head B, and

hook Cwith each other, substantially as`hereiu shown and described and for the purpose set forth.
