FRANK J. ANTELOTTI, or NORFOLK, VIRGINIA.
FOOTLOCK FOR PRINTERS GALLEYS.
Application filed June 22,1911 Seria1No. 634,744.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK J ANTELQTTI,
citizen of the United States, residing at Norfolk, in the county of Norfolk and State of Virginia, have invented certain new 1 and useful Improvements in Footlocks for Printers Galleys, of which the following is a specification. p a
My invention has relation. to improvements in footlocks for locking typeat the. bottom of the galleys for printers use, and. it has for its obj ectthe adaptation to 'galleys of any description and more particularly.
to type galleys in which a side-stick lock-up is used, and a further object is to improve, simplify and cheapen the cost of construction of this class of devices over the existing prior state of the art.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts as will be hereinafter more in detail describedand the as: serted novelty specifically claimed. 7 L
I have fully and clearly illustrated my in vention in the accompanying drawings in which; I
Figure 1 is a top or plan View of my device assembled for use, and Figs. 2- and 3 are detail views thereof.
Referring to the drawings: A; designates a galley composed of side pieces a, a and end piece Z) respectively, the opposite'end of the galley being left open.
B designates a tapering side-stick lock-upi C, C, C C designate wedged-shaped quoins which are located near each end of the galley and interposed between the s1de= I stick lock-up and the inner face of one of the side pieces a and the side-sticklock-llh being in turn interposed between the type and said wedge-shaped quoins. I
D designates a foot-clamp having a hole (Z formed centrally therethrough." One end of this clamp terminates in a right angular projection d and is located edgewise and in juxtaposition to the movable end or foot piece of the galley. p E designates a fiat spring slightly curved at one ofits ends, the opposite end of which being straight from a point midway its length and which; is also provided with a Specification of Letters Patent.

hole which is in alinement with the hole formed in the foot clamp or keeper, and
'throughsaid holes is passed a set-screw e for holding the clamp spring together. This spring at its opposite end and side surface is provided with a curved fingerpiece E by which the operator can'readily manipulate the adjustment .of vice. r e I F designates a flat movable foot slug the parts of the de-' which is located edgewise at the bottom of the type to prevent displacement of the typedownwardly. j
In case of relasing the type the quoins, are-loosenedand drawn out which releases the side-stick and together therewith the foot-.slug, foot-clamp and spring, and in assemblingthe above parts ityis then neces-.
sary that the foot-clamp and spring are placed at the bottom of the type and shoved upwardly and the quoins and the side-stick I are thenput in place and the quoins are then tightened which causes a pressure upon the ends of the spring, thus holding the footclamp and slug solidly up against thebottom of the type. i
My invention is simple in its construction and holds the type firmly at the bottom of j the galley and remains positively locked until'released. It 1s instantaneous in its operation and takes up hardly more room than a line of type, thus allowing more typeto.
be put on'the galleys, Thefoot-lock or device should be placed with its open end next to the side-stick if a side-stick is used (if not, on either side).
I claim its end provided with. a right angular pr0- ectmn, a sprmg dev ce having secured to 3 one of its ends and'side surface a curved gether, all operated as herein shown and do scribed 1n a-printers galley, a' foot clamp having In testimony whereof I atlix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
' FRANK J; ANTELOTTI.
