To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NICOLA PERNIOE, sub-- ject of the King of Italy, residing at Atlantic City, in the county of Atlantic and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Syrlnges, of
which the following is a specification.
In the treatment of venereal diseases it is well known that it is a desideratum to apply the medicine to such parts only as are affected, and to avoid or prevent the spread of the drugs to the parts which are sound, as oftentimes when medicine is applied 10- cally, as in the treatment of gonorrhea or the like, it will cause an irritation of those parts which are not affected, thereby retarding the cure of those parts which are affected and very often making the success of the treatment well-nigh impossible.
The primary object of my present lnvention is to provide a syringe for locally treating certain venereal diseases whereby the action of the medicine is limited to the parts which alone are affected and all spreading of the drugs to other unaffected areas avoided, the present case being a divisional application of my application for patent for syringe, filed September 20, 1910, Serial No. 582,949.
With this object in view, the invention consists in certain constructions, arrangements and combinations of the parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.
For a full understanding of the invention reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of my improved syringe, one of the arts being shown in side elevation; and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view with the piston in a different position from that shown in Fig. 1.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the accompanying drawingby the same reference characters.
My improved syringe comprises a hollow body portion 1 which is preferably closed at one end and open at the other, and a tubular piston 2 working in the body portion. The body portion 1 is formed with a relatively long side opening slot 3, and the piston 2 is formed near its closed inner end with a side opening 4 and at its opposite end with branched inlet passages 5, whereby two different kinds of medicaments may be simultaneously inserted into the organ to be treated. Preferably the piston 2 is provided with a scale or graduations, as indicated at 6, so that it may be determined how far into the body portion 1 the piston 2 shall be inserted before it is given a partial rotation about its longitudinal axis to discharge the liquid to the affected parts.

In the practical use of the device, the body portion 1 is inserted in the organ to be treated with the opening 4 of the piston 2 out of registry with the side opening slot 3 of the body portion 1, and the piston is then given a partial rotation about its longitudinal axis so as to bring the opening 4. into registry with the slot 3 to discharge the liquid to the affected part-s.
Having thus'described my invention, What I claim as new is: p
l. A syringe of the character described, comprising a tubular body portion formed with a longitudinally elongated slot, and a tubular piston adapted to be thrust into the body portion and formed with an outlet opening adapted to register with said slot.
2. A syringe, embodying a tubular body portion formed with a longitudinally elongated slot, and a tubular piston adapted to be thrust into said body portion and formed with a side opening adapted to register with said slot, said piston belng provided at one end with a branched inlet passage.
