Description

I D. LEE. MASSAGE INSTRUMENT. APPLIOATION IILED 1 211211911 Patented Nov. 7, 1911.
DAISY LEE, OF CHICAGO HEIGHTS, ILLINOIS.
MASSAGE INSTRUMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 7, 1911.
Application filed February 23, 1911. Serial No. 610,157. a
, To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAISY LEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago Heights, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Massage Instruments;
and I do declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in massage instruments.
One object of the invention is to provide a massage instrument adapted to contain oil or other tissue building medicament and having means whereby the latter may be ejected and applied to the parts to be massaged without danger of the fluid flowing and dripping onto the patients clothing.
Another object is to provide a device of this character which will be simple, strong and durable in construction efficient and reliable in operation and well adapted to the purpose for which the same is designed.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will bemore fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings z--Figure 1 is a front view of a massage instrument constructed in. accordance with my invention, Fig. 2 is a vertical cross sectional view of the same; Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional View taken on theline 33 of Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes my improved massage instrument comprising ahollo-w body portion 2 which may be of any suitable shape and is here shown as of flat cylindrical form. The hollow body 2 may be constructed of any suitable material but is preferably formed of rubber. The front face of the receptable is provided with continuously circular rows of outwardly projecting perforated cone-shaped nipples 3 communicating with the receptacle, each of said nipples having cut-away or flat terminals arranged in alinement with each other, said cut-away terminal .serving to revent abrasion of the flesh when tappe by the instrument. The receptacle is provided in its side wall with an opening in which is inserted a sleeve 5 having an annular flange 5 on its inner end which is adapted to contact with the inner surface of the side wall of the receptacle adjacent the opening. Said sleeve is provided with exterior screw threads on its outer end which project beyond the side wall of the receptacle and on said threads is mounted a screw threaded nut 5 whereby to clamp the flange of the sleeve in contact with the inner wall adjacent the opening therein so as to prevent leakage of the receptacle at the opening. Said sleeve is further provided with interior screw threads in which is mounted the screw threaded end of a handle 6, said handle serving as a stopper for the sleeveand also serving to manipulate the instrument. The handle is also provided with an annular flange 5 which contacts with the outer edge of the sleeve to prevent leakage of the sleeve.
In using the device the studded side of the same is tapped lightly against the parts to be massaged thereby discharging a portion of the oil or other contents of the body 2 onto said parts. After thus applying the fluid the parts are massaged with said studded side of the body 2. In this operation a rotary movement of the instrument is preferably employed. By means of a combined massaging device and applicator constructed in accordance with the invention it will be readily seen that olive oil or other fluid massaging preparations may be conveniently applied to the parts as needed and without danger of the fluid dripping onto the clothing of the patient or being otherwise wasted.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings,
the construction and operation of the invention will be readily'understood without requiring a more extended explanation. i
Havlng thus described my invention what I claim is: I
Aflexible massaging instrument comprising a hollow receptacle with its front wall having circular rows of outwardly projecting perforated cone-shaped nipples having screw threaded, a handle having a screw In testimony whereof I have herennto set threaded end to connect with the interior-1y my hand in presence of two subscribing w1t- 10 screw threads of the sleeve so as to provide nesses. a stopper for the sleeve, the handle also- DAISY LEE adapted to manipulate the instrument, and said handlealse having an'annular flange Witnesses: which contacts with the outer end. of the Mrs. R. O. JE ELL,
