To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ARTHUR Q. WALSH, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county andState of purpose mentioned, use is .made of a case formed of two sections hinged togethen each section having separate compartments, one for the reception of cigarettes and the like, and the other for bunched matches, and a spring-pressed pivoted retaining arm exthe can be read1l swun outwardin' toan tending across each. cigarette compartment to hold the cigarettes in place.

A practical embodiment of the invention is. represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which simllarcharacters of reference. indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

The cigarette case consists essentially of two sections A and B, connected with each other by a hinge C, and adapted to be fastened together when in closed. position .by a suitable spring catch D held onthe section Band adapted to engage a keeper E formed on the other section'A. The sections A: and B are provided with transverse partitionsF and F for separating the sections into cigarette compartments G, G and match compartments H, H, of which the compartments G, G are adapted to receive cigarettes or like smokers articles I, and the compartments H and H are adapted to receive matches J, preferably arranged in bunches, and such, for instance, as are shown and described in the Letters Patentof the United States, No. 483,165 and N 0. 483,166, granted to Joshua Pusey, on September 27, 1892. The partition F has its upper edge approximately, flush with the section A, while the partition F projects beyond the inner face of. the sectionB, and the partition F overlaps the partition F when the sections Arand B are inclosed position,-as will be. readily. understood by reference to. Fig. 2, so that the compartments G, G, are completely separated from the match com-. partments H,'.H7 at thejtime thesections A and B. are in a closed position. Across the inner .faces of the compartments G" and G extend :pivoted spring-pressed retaining arms K and K adapted to hold the cigarettes I. in-position in the-corresponding'compartment G .or G. The. arms K and K are. mounted to swing on the pintle .G. of the hinge. C, and, the armsare pressed on by a spring K so as .tonormally hold the said arms K,.K. in proper' position across the cigarettes I, to. hold the samev in position. in the compartments G, G. By. arranging the arms K- and K in the manner described,

claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent: Q I

A case of the class described, comprising two case sections hinged together, said sections having transverse partitions dividing the same into separate compartments, and

lugs at the ends of said sections for holding the latter against relative endwise movement in one direction, one of said partitions being extended beyond the end of the plane of its respective section and adapted to overlap the partition of the other section andv prevent relative enclwise movement of the case sections in the opposite direction.
