Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL LYNAHON, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
CUTTING BOOTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 10,134', dated October 18, 1853; Ressued May 9, 1854, No. 264.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, DANIEL LYNAHON, of the city of Buffalo, County of Erie, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Mode of Making Uncrilnped Boots, by which They are Cut to Set Better, Securing the Seams from Ripping and Giving a General Beauty; and Iy do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the said invention.
I first vcut the vamp according to Figure l and fold it together as is done in all cases; secondly, I cut the piece, Fig. 2, and sew it on the side C, of the vamp v-j, the opposite half of the same size being a substantial part of the vamp. I then sew up t-he center of the front which form the seams Z-m and 11b-n. Then I add to these the top o which joins them at p-n. Next I cover the seam m-n with the tongue z', (which is also a part of the vamp), by
stitching it at each side of the seams m-w, which prevents it from being seen, and from ripping by means of the working of the foot in the boot. Then I bring the same tongue across the seam gli-4L, to the top, which keeps that seam also in its place and prevents it from ripping: thus making a permanent and neat setting front. The rest of the boot is made after the ordinary mode.
That I claim as new in this mode is- The tongue z', which first gives to the vamp a more exact crimped turn, secondly, covers the seam m-/n from being seen, and prevents it from ripping, and thirdly, keeps the seams Z-m and p-n permanent by receivling the strain that comes on them when drawing on the boot.
DANIEL LYNAHON.
fitnesses DAVID E. DAY, I. H. LAwsoN.
