CLEAN-OUT.
APPLICATION FILED JAN.11, 1910.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PATRICK J'. OLBRIEN, 0F BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, AS SIGNOR TO JAMES BARRETT MANUFACTURING COMPANY, ACORPORATION OF MASSACHUSETTS.
CLEAN-OUT.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Dec, 26, 1911,
Application filed January 11, 1910. Serial No. 537,390.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PATRICK J. OBRIEN, a citlzen of the United States, and a resident of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Clean- Outs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to clean-outs for drain-pipes and its object is to improve and simplify the construct-ion thereof in the manner hereinafter set forth.
My invention will be described in connection with the drawings which accompany and form a part of this specification and illustrate the preferred embodiment thereof.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of my'improved clean-out. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section thereof, and Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
In the figures, 1 represents a pipe section provided with an integra'l'clean-out box 2, having its end walls 2 substantially at an angle of 45 degrees with the axis of the pipe section and its side walls 2 substantially vertical, so that the longitudinal section of the clean-out box is substantially triangular as shown in Fig. 2, and the trans verse, section thereof substantially square as shown in Fig. 3. The inclined end walls are each provided with a clean-out cap 3 3 preferably of brass and threaded at 4 4: into the openings 5 5 of said end walls.
ary 1910.
By means of theconstruction above described I am enabled to provide a sanitary clean-out for the drains which are usually placed in the'cellars of buildings between the plumbing system of the building and the connection thereof with the outside sewer system. By virtue of the shape and size of the clean-out box and its location with respect to the drain, any obstruct-ion may be readily removed by means of the usual jointed rods inserted into the drain in either direction through the openings 5 5, and although clean-outs of the specified construction have given good results in practice. it will be understood that various modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit of my invention.
I claim:
A clean-out comprising a horizontal pipe section, a clean-out box substantially triangular in longitudinal section and substantially square in transverse section, the end walls of said clean-out box making angles of substantially forty-five degrees with the axis of said pipe section, and clean-out caps threaded into each of said end walls.
In testimony whereof, I have. hereunto subscribed my name this 5th day of JanurATRioK'J. ojBnrnN.
Witnesses:
