Description

inited 51am @anni (Dijl'i'wf FREDERICK WITTRAM, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
Letters Patent No. 101,203, dated AMarch 22, 1870.
`fig. 1 united.
Figure 3, as it appears when fastened and in use.
Figure 4, a side View of fig. 3.
The letters of reference indicate the different fi nres.
My invention relates to an article of dress for children, to protect their clothing and bedding, and the the same parts in clothing of those who may nurse or have the care of them.
The following is a description ofmy invention:
' Fig. 1 is a diagram of the shape into which the material is cut or formed, the same being of any desira ble size and fabric. 'Iwo of these pieces A are united at the edge B, as shown in fig. 2. The edges C and D are then secured together, as is shown in iig. 3. l prefer buttons for the fastenings at() and I), but other means of fastening may be substituted for the same.
The pattern, as shown in iig. 1, may be cut out oz' material already made waterproof, but I prefer to cui the pattern first, and after the pieces are joined totect the threads and fiber of the cloth from moisture,
which otherwise would soon rot and render the socalled protector useless, and thus defeat the object for which they were intended.
The peculiar shape into which I cut the pattern, as
' as shown in fig. 1, enables the protector to conform to theshape of the body, as is shown in fig.- 4, and,` therefore, renders it less liable to drop ot.
Elastic bands, as shown at E, canbe secured to the side, by which the stockings or leggings can be kept in their proper position.
A larger size can be used for invalids.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The dress-protector constructed yof duplicate pieces A of water-proof or repellent material, united by the seam B and fastening C D, as herein dcscribed.
2. A dress-protector made from water-proof material, having its component parts united by or its seams covered with rubber to form a water-tight garment.
FREDERICK WITTRAM.
