Specification of Letters Patent.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, I/VALTER E. HUENE- FELD, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oven- Doors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in oven doors and more particularly to that class which are adaptable for use on portable ovens and provided with glass panels,- the object of the invention being to provide simple and eicient means for retaining the glass panel yieldingly in place and to facilitate the ready insertion of the panel.
W'ith this object in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a rear face view of an ovendoor embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view.
1 represents a door frame sheet having a central opening and made with a bulged portion 2. At the free edges of the bulged portion of the frame, olf-set flanges 3 project outwardly therefrom and at the outer edges of these off-set flanges, inwardly pro-v jecting and slightly inclined flanges 4 are formed. The inwardly projecting anges 4 constitute seats for a glass panel 5 near the edges of the latter. A lining sheet 6 is secured to the frame sheet l and conforms to the general contour of the latter. At respective ends of the opening in the lining sheet, the latter is provided with beads 7, the inner sides of which are free and constitute yielding abutments for the ends of the glass panel.
At one longitudinal side of the opening in the door, the wall of the lining sheet is eX- tended beyond the adjacent flange 3 of the frame sheet l and constitutes a seat 8 bearing against the inner face of lthe glass panel. At the opposite longitudinal edge of the opening in the door, the edge of the lining sheet terminates coincident with the ange 3 of the frame sheet l. At this edge of the panel opening, a retaining strip 9 for the glass panel is afforded. This strip consists of a straight piece of sheet metal secured against the lining sheet by means of bolts 10 provided at one end with heads and threaded at their inner ends for the reception of nuts 1l. The retaining strip projects inwardly beyond the free edge of the lining sheet and beyond the plane of the flange 3 of the frame sheet and lies in a position to bear against the inner face of the glass panel opposite the bearing thereagainst of the inwardly projecting flange 4 of the frame sheet.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is,-
1. In an oven door, the combination of frame and lining sheets having alined openings and having outwardly bulged portions surrounding said openings, the frame sheet at the edges of the opening therein provided with off-set inwardly projecting flanges, a glass panel seated against said flanges, the lining sheet at one side of the opening in the door projecting inwardly and constituting a seat for the inner face of the glass panel, a retaining strip at the opposite side of the opening in the door, said retaining strip consisting of a straight piece of sheet metal having a portion seated against the inner face of the glass panel and a portion seated against the lining sheet, and bolts securing said retaining strip to the door.
2. In an oven door, the combination of frame and lining sheets having openings and having bulged portions surrounding said openings, the frame sheet provided with inwardly projecting off-set flanges at the edges of the openings and constituting seats, a glass panel bearing against said seats, the lining sheet provided at the ends of the opening in the door with inwardly projecting beads having free inner sides constituting yielding abutments for the ends of the glass panel, the lining sheet at one longitudinal side of the opening in the door being extended inwardly and constituting a seat for the inner face of the glass panel, specification in the presence of two suband a retaining strip removably secured at scribing Witnesses. the opposite longitudinal side of the panel opening and aording a seat for the inner WALTER E' HUENEFELD 5 face of the glass panel near this edge Witnesses:
