HAT-PIN PROTECTOR.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIMON TooMnY, a citi`V zen of the Dominion of Canada, residing at Glace Bay, in the county of Cape Breton and Province of Nova Scotia, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat-Pin Protectors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to hat pins, and more particularly to hat pin protectors.
The object of my invention is to provide a hat pin protector, which when in use will cover the point of the hat pin, and prevent its sticking out dangerously from the hat on which it is used.
Another object of my invention is to provide in such a protector means whereby the protector can be easily secured to the hat pin, in such a way that it will not fall 01T.
Other objects of my invention will become apparent as the invention is more fully set forth.
It is well known that the projecting points of hat pins, are a source of danger, and are liable to be broken off easily unless they are protected. Up to the present, although many devices have been used, none seem to do the work intended satisfactorily, and even when they do their liability to loss is a great factor in their non-use.

In the drawings l is a hat pin of any usual form having a head 2 thereon and having its point 3 disposed within a protector 4. The pin is arranged'to project into a cork portion 5 which is secured within a casingv which is of any suitable spun material and has a solder filling to keep it slecurely in position, and to add a certain amount of weight to the protector. Then the hat pin is not in use, theprotector is removed from oi'f the pin and the pin is pushed through the hole 7 so that the protector is put far up the stem, in order that it will not be lost. Of courseunder some conditions the hole 7 may be used in order to clamp the pin firmly on the hat and leave the end projecting, but this use is not the particular one that is desired to be' considered in this invention, but shows the liexibility of this device.
The advantages of this device are that it is positive in its action, it protects the pin point from breakage, and prevents the same from being a source of danger, at the same time the protector can be easily placed in position, or removed, and has the feature of being adjustable on the pin, and when out of use can be located on the pin so as to eliminate the possibility of loss, and the construction of the device is so simple as to involve but little cost in its manufacture.
Obviously while I have shown my protector with a cork filling and also with a solder stop for holding it in place, I do not wish to be limited to these particular materials, or even to the particular shape shown in the drawings, or in any other way otherwise than necessitated by the prior art as many modifications of my invention can be made without departing from the principles pins, particularly those of the scarf or tie pin types.
