BAKERS-OVEN GRATE.
incense.
Specication of Letters Patent. Patenijd NOV. 21, 1911.
Application filed May 10, 1910. Serial No. 560,501.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC SLAro, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bakers- Oven Grates, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact description.
This invention relates to an improvement in grates especially in bakers oven grates.
The object of this invention is to provide a grate that will withstand the action of heat better than the grates now in use, and also to provide a grate that will not easily warp or become burned to the frame, or support therefor.
l will now proceed to describe my invention in detail, the novel features of which I will finally claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part hereof, wherein:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of my improved grate and frame therefor; Fig. 2 is a crosssectional view taken on a line ctr-a in Fig. l; Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of my improved grate; and Fig. l is an enlarged fragmentary side elevation of that portion of the grate and frame adjacent the trunnions on the grate and Sockets therefor in the frame.
Referring to the drawing, my improved grate is indicated by 1 and the frame therefor by 2. The frame 2 is provided, at the bottom thereof, with a flange 3 which serves to secure the frame in the material 4c out of which the oven is built.
As can be seen in Fig. 1, the frame 1 consists of end members 1a and side members 1b, and longitudinally disposed members or slats 5. The side members 1b, as well as the longitudinally disposed members 5, are connected by a transversely disposed member 6. All of the above named members are integral one with the other.
To adapt the grate 1 for a rocking movement, I provide the side members 1b with trunnions 7, the said trunnions being provided with a plurality of stops 8 and 8a, the said stops being larger in diameter than the t-runnions 7 The frame 2 is provided with depressed bearings 9 and sockets 10 and 11, the bearings 9 acting as Seats for the trunnions 7,
the sockets 10 and l1 being adapted to receive the stops 8 and 8a. It' will be seen in Fig. t that the peripheral surface of the stops 8 and 8a do not contact with the material of the frame 2.
As can be seen in Fig. 1 the frame 2 is provided with projections 1Q in which the Sockets 11 are formed, the sockets 10 being formed in the body of the frame 2.
The function of the trunnion 7 is to rotatably Support the frame 1. The function of the stops 8 and 8a is to prevent, to a large extent, the shrinking of the grate l, thereby tending to prevent the grate from bucking in the center. The transverse members 6 of the grate 1 are, as can be seen in Fig. 1, disposed in line with the trunnions 7; hence the strength of the grate to resist lateral warping is greatly increased. The longitudinally disposed center member 5 is eX- tended downwardly to form a iin 13 to which a rocking bar or rod can be attached.
As can be seen in Fig. 4., the trunnions 7, one only being seen in said Fig. 4, are situated, when the grate 1 is in position, considerably lower than the top surface of the frame 2, and are in consequence somewhat removed from the fire. Therefore the life of the said trunnions will be considerably increased.
Having now described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
The combination in an oven, of a supporting frame embedded within the material of which the oven is formed, so that the top face of the frame extends Hush with the top of the oven material, outwardly extending flanges at the base of the frame extending into the oven material, a central integral inwardly extending portion formed on the inner faces of each of the sides of the frame, said projections extending the height of the frame, the upper faces of the projections, and the portions of the frame adjacent thereto being cut away to form a pair of shallow spaced depressed bearings and a pair of sockets, arranged in alternating order, a grate, an outwardly extending trun nion on each side of the grate, an integral annular stop carried by each trunnion, the inner faces of the stops abutting the outer faces of the grate sides, a second annular stop carried by each trunnion, and arranged Signed at New York city, N. Y., this 9th on the trunnions centrally between the day kof May, 1910.
outer faces of the first stops and the outer his ends of the trunnions, said outer ends of the ISAAC mkSLAPO trunnions abutting the material of Whichv Witnesses:
the oven is built, the trunnions engaging in EDWARD A. JARVIS said bearings, and the stops 1n said sockets.
ESTELLE O. HAMBURGER.
