Description
A. P. HAMMERSCHMIDT. WINDOW SCREEN.
APPLICATION FILED JAN. 18, 1911.
1,009,145. Patented 1101211911.
ANTHONY TE. HAMMERSCHMIDT, OF GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN.
WIND OW-SCREEN.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTHONY F. HAM- MERSOHMIDT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Screens, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in window screens and more particularly to a means whereby the opposite sections can be secured together in such a manner as to prevent their disconnection and also, so that they can be adjusted without any friction.
Another object is to improve and simplify devices of this character rendering them comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, reliable and eflicient in use and readily operated.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination, and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a fragmentary front of a screen constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectional View therethrough. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a section taken on the line l4 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a view illustrating a modified form of my invention.
Referring to the drawing by characters, the numeral 1 designates generally a window screen comprising the longitudinal sliding rails 2 connected by the end rails 3 upon which is secured a screen 4. The longitudinal rails 2 are channeled as at 3 and have located therein tubular casings 5, the outer Specification of Letters Patent.

sides of which are slotted as at 6 in alinement with slots 7 formed in the contacting faces of the rails 2. Plugs 8 provided with transverse grooves 9 are secured in the opposite ends of the tubes 5 by any suitable means and have extending from the sides thereof through the slots 6 and 7 pins 10. The ends of these pins 10 are provided with balls 11 which are slidably located in the tubes 5 as clearly illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawing.
Referring to Fig. 5 which illustrates a modified form of the ball 11, the said ball is surrounded by a shell which is provided with an opening considerably larger than the pin 10 through which this said pin extends. This construction assists the ball in its sliding movement through the tube 5.
From the foregoing it will be manifest that a window screen is provided for which will fulfil all of the necessary requirements of such a device.
Having thus fully described this invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
The combination in a window screen, of a pair of rails, tubular casings located in the said rails and provided in their sides with slots, plugs, located in the ends of the said casings, pins holding the plugs against displacement, pins projeoting from the plugs through the slots in the casings, balls carried by the pins and engaging the opposite .casings substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
