lie it known that I, JOHN F. MAGLONE, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Providence, in the county. of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Neck Searfs or Ties, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing. This invention has reference to neck scarfs or ties, its object being to provide a tie having that portion which passes around the neck, or between the folds of a turndown collar, made of a separate material from that of which the exposed ends are constructed, said center portion being made of a very thin yet strong material to pre vent binding beneath the collar and to admit of ready adjustment without undue pulling or straining the tie.

A further object of the invention is to less expensive tomanufacture much shorter length of the silk, or other material of which the end portions are constructed, may be used, both the wide end, and narrow center sections being cut separate and independent, thus enabhng them to be cut from the piece to the best advantage and with the minimum amount of waste.

lVith these and other objects in View, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

Fig. 2is an enlarged perspective view illustrating one method of constructing the ends of the middle portion into which the ends of the tie are setand fastened. Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the middle section of the tie which is preferably constructed of very thin, light yet firm and strong material, such as linen, mohair, or other suitable material, the ends 2-2 of which section are preferably formed double, said doubled portions being open at their extremities 3, each also open at one edge 4, for a short distance as illustrated in Fig. 2, said doubled and split end being for the purtion 6 which may be inserted therein and exposed to usted without straining Specification of Letters Patent.

The usual high grade silk tie is made of one piece of material and lined or padded,-.

particularly in that portion which passes around the neck, for the purpose of reinforcing or strengthening the silk and giving shape to the tie. This padding has a tendency to make the tie thick, heavy, and

clumsy under the collar causing the same to bind particularly when passing between the folds of a turn-down collar, and to prevent adjustment of the tie without eonsiderable pulling and consequent straining of the tie which shortens its life and soon destroys it. By my improved construction I reduce the thickness of that section which passes beneath the collar by making it preferably of a single thickness of very strong material thereby materially reducing the friction of moving or sliding it back and forth between the folds of the collar.

Another feature of my invention, particularly from a manufacturers standpoint, is the forming of the center section of the tie with open ends, as illustrated in Fig. 2, for the reception of the ends of the end portions 'of the tie, whereby the joint between the two sections is rendered practically invisible, the neat appearance of the tie preserved, and the expense of joining the parts together by sewing or otherwise reduced to the minimum.

Among other advantages in a neck scarf of my improved construction over the ordinary scarf is first, that the center section is thinner, will retain its shape longer, is much stronger and more durable than that of the ordinary tie; second, the tie may be more easily applied to the collar and readily ador injuring the tie; third, the tie is less expensive to manufacture, and fourth as the colors of the center am'atad. at th- (Me section constructed Woven maturlui.
