PILLOW-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 24, 1911.
Application filed April 21, 1911. Serial No. 622,466.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMMA citizen of the United States,
B. HATTLER, a residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and
State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pillow- Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pillow holders and is especially adapted for use in residences where folding beds are used, as the pillows used therein must be removed when the bed is not in use and closed up. Where my invention is used the bed pillows become ornamental and can be made to serve as sofa or divan pillows during the time they are not in use on a bed. My device can also be used for a covering for sofa pillows where the covering material has become worn or soiled.
The invention is more fully described in the following specification, set forth in the claims and illustrated in the drawings wherein;
Figure 1 is a plan View of my device, with the covering material, partly broken away to show the frame inside. Fig. 2 is a sectional view. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view showing the hinge. Fig. 4 is a detail view of the hinge. Fig. 5 is a detail sectional view showing the catch. Fig. 6 is a plan view of a modified form of the frame. Fig. 7 is a sectional view on line 7-7 Fig. 6. Fig. 8 is a detail sectional view of the hinge. Fig. 9 is a detail view of the clip. Fig. 10 is a detail plan view of the fastening device. Fig. 11 is a sectional view on the line 1111 Fig. 10.
In carrying out this invention, I use two four- sided frames 12 and 13 and cover them with any suitable material 14, to which may be added a fringe or rufile 15 and lace or embroidery ornaments 18.
The pillow 17 is placed between the two covered frames as shown in Fig. 2, the frames being hinged together as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. The hin e 16 consists of a thin sheeet of metal fold ed around the two frames 12 and 13 on one of the four sides of the frame and on the opposite side of the square formed by the frame, I use a catch 19 to hold the unhinged sides of the frames together. The catch 19 is similar in form to the hinge 18 with the exception that the end 20 may be readily brought into engagement with or released from the frame rod 12.
In Fig. 6 I show a modification of my device in' a collapsible form especially ada ted to be made into a compact ackage for s ipment in which two sets 0 light flat strips 21 and 22 are hinged together as at 23 the four strips in each of the sets being secured together at their ends by the pivots 25. At one end of one of the strips a pin 26' with a head 27 is fixed, the said head passing through the opening 28 in the bar. At the other three corners of the frame the end of one of the strips forming the corner is turned over forming a flange as at 26, this flange serving to limit the pivotal motion of the other strip.
29 is a swingin latch pivoted at 30 to the strip 21 and having a slot 31 for engagement with the pin 26'. The frame is held ri idly in the form shown in Fig. 6 by the flanges 26 when the swinging latch 29 is in engagement with the pin 26'. The frame is collapsed by releasing the locking device 29 and folding the strips 21 together. As shown in Fig. 9 a clip 32 may be used to hold together the sides of the two sets of frames opposite to the hinged sides. This clip is pivoted at 35 and punched out as at 34 to conform with a boss 33 on the stri 21.
It is obvious that the construction 0 the device is not confined to the exact details shown in the drawings, but the parts may be modified or arranged otherwise, without departing from the essential features described.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a device of the character described, a plurality of bar frames hingedly connected along one side, means on the unhinged sides of said bar frames for holding said unhinged sides in engagement comprising a hook catch rigidly secured to one of the said unhinged sides and adapted to detachably engage with the other unhinged side and a covering detachably secured to said bar frames.
2. In a device of the character described, a plurality of bar frames hin edly connected along one side, each of said frames comprising a plurality of members pivotally attached to one another and rovided at one end with a flange adapte to engage together and means on the unhinged sides of said frames for holding said unhinged sides in enga ement comprising a clip pivetelly secure. an .one unhmged side and adapted to engage with a boss on the other unhinged side. 10
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 21st Paley of March, 1911.
