CHARLES IDIEHL, OF EGG HARBOR CITY, NEW JERSEY.
SMOKE-PIPE COLLAR.
Original application filed July 29, 1910, Serial No. 574,476.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 17, 1911.
Divided and this application filed January 7,
Serial No. 601,267.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLEs DIEHL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Egg Harbor City, in'the county of Atlantic and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Smoke- Pipe Collars, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in smoke pipe collars, and more particularly to devices of this kind, adapted to securely hold the smoke pipe in the chimney opening, the object of the invention being to provide a collar of this character, which can be placed in position and removed without disturbing the normal position of the smoke ipe. p This application is filed as a division of my application filed July 29, 1910, and given Serial No. 574,476.
With this object in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1, is a broken view in longitudinal section illustrating my improvements. Fig. 2, is a view in section on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
1 represents a chimney, and 2 an opening therein.
3 is a smoke pipe which is provided near its end with an annular inwardly projecting groove 4, said smoke pipe projecting into the opening 2 as shown in Fig. 1.
My improved collar is made in two sections 5, 5, each of semicircular form, adapted to fit against the outer face of the chimney 1, and secured thereto by means of screws 6. Each half section 5, 5, is provided with a semi-circular flange 7, which fits into and projects into the opening 2, and each section is also provided with an annular internal flange 8, projecting into the groove 4 of pipe 3, so that when the ring sections are fastened on to the pipe from opposite sides, and then pushed into the opening 2, said pipe 8 will be securely held to the chimney, after said ring sections are secured by screws 6. It will, therefore, be noted that while the ring sections are readily inserted and removed, that they will most effectually prevent any escape of the smoke pipe from the chimney when once in position.
Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described, without departing from my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of-the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The combination with a pipe section having an annular groove therein, of a collar comprising two half sections, an inwardly projecting curved flange on each half section, which when said sections are together, is of a diameter to snugly fit the chimney opening, and inwardly projecting flanges on said sections adapted to project into the groove in the pipe, said collar supporting the pipe centrally in the chimney opening and held by reason of the snug fit in the opening in locked engagement with the pipe, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
