In the construction illustrated in Fig. l ni -which my improved device is employed as a vise, a holder it is used to support the wrench. This holder may, of course. be of any suitable construction. The combination ,of a handle, a jaw mounted to have a limited dcgrce of rocking movement thereon. and the handle hav in g a bifurcated extension beyond the pivot oi the jaw. a pawl pivotally connected with -the handle extension and located bchveeu the arms of its bilurcatcd portion. the pawl being spring-actuated and the rocking jaw being also bifurcated to allow the pawl to pass between its members. and a second jaw pivrblally connected with the lirslnamed jaw and exteriorlv toothed to receive the pawl, substantially as described.
