BOX WITH MOVABLE SLIDES FOR PACKING PICTURES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 26, 1911.
Application led August 5, 1908. Serial No. 447,183.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, MARIE JOSEPH LOUIS STANIsLAs LE GUISQUET, a citizen of the Republic of France, residing at Quimper, Department of Finistre, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boxes with Movable Slides for Packing Pictures, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
This invention has for its object tO provide a packing box havin movable slides for packing a number of pictures, of different sizes, in Order to transport them with security, in a small space.
The invention is illustrated by way of example in various forms in the annexed drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a front View showing the inside of a box having two movable slides at right angle to other. Fig. 2 is a plan of the box shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical section on the line A-A in Fig. 1 showing the inside arrangement of the slides. Fig. 4 is a detail View. Figs. 5 and 6 are modifications.
Referring now to the Figs. 1 to 4, it will be seen that this box comprises an Outer frame 1, the sides of which are united together in any suitable manner, to secure both strength and lightness. In each side of this frame are slots 2-2, 3--3, etc., provided for moving and adjusting the slides 4, 5, to secure in position a frame 6 the edges 7 and 8 of which enter into the grooves 9, 10 of the box, whereas both the other edges 11, 12 are held securely by the slides 4, 5 which are provided with metal flanges 13 and 14. These slides are provided at each end with a small metal framing 15, 16 which is sliding itself in the grooves 2, 3 and which has a suitable screw threaded hole for receiving the screws 17, 18 used for securing the slides in any desired position, according to the sizes of the frames to be packed.
In Fig. 4, is shown on a larger scale the arrangement above described, and the reduced part A of the two slides 4 which allows of the slides 5 to pass between them. y In the example illustrated it will be seen that six frames may be laid in, and that the slots 2, 3, etc., are divided in two groups of three On each side Of the axis of each wall of the box, but it is evident, that the number, shape and sizes of the grooves and slides may be varied, according to the circumstances and requirements.
Grooves for guiding the slides and the ends of the latter may be of a dove-tail shape as shown in Fi 5.
Should the frames to be packed be of a size much smaller than those of the box, springs 19, 20 may be used as this is diagrammatically shown in Fig. 6, such springs pressing against each slide 4, 5 and secured for example to the inside Of the box opposite the corresponding slide. Thus the frame 6 will be securely held by the spring pressure on two of its edges, the slides being still held in suitable grooves.
It will be obvious that these boxes may be made of wood Or any other suitable material, and may also be provided with covers and shutters forming hinged Or sliding bottoms, and even with dust protecting cloth. Handles and the like may also be provided to facilitate transportation.
Claims.
1. A packing crate for frames, comprising side and end walls provided with parallel slots and grooves, slides parallel to the Walls of the crate having their ends slidably mounted in the slots, said slides and grooves being adapted tO clamp a frame in position and means for securing said slides ln said slots.
2. A packing crate for frames, comprising side and end walls provided with parallel slots and grooves, slides parallel to the walls Of the crate having their ends slidably mounted in the slots, said slides and grooves being adapted to clamp a frame in position, and means for securing said slides in said slots, said slides being provided with metal flanges disposed at right angles to each other for engaging the sides of the frame.
In testimony whereof I aiix my signature.
MARIE JOSEPH LOUIS STANISLAS LE GUISQUE'I. In the presence of- CHARLES Aunis, JOSEPH HLIS.
