RAZOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 5, 1910.
Patented Sept. 19, 1911.
Serial No. 553,640.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, GUSTAV JZiNNER'r, a subject of the King of Saxony, Germany, residing at Leipzig, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Razors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to improvements in razors in which the tang portion of the blade is laterally bent under an obtuse angle preferably in an inclined upward direction relative to the blade and again parallel to the blade or nearly so. By this construction I attain that an inexperienced person may safely use the razor without danger or risk of injury. By means of this peculiarly shaped and bent tang portion of the blade the handle is away from the face during the use of the razor.
The known razors devised for use by inexperienced persons are usually provided with a safety comb guard. The-use of the ordinary razor requires a certain amount of skill because it is pivotally secured in the handle and the blade, its tang and the handle are in one plane. Furthermore the handle of such ordinary razor is too close to the face during shaving.
It is the purpose of the present invention to overcome the described deficiencies.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 represents in side elevation a razor embodying in desirable form the present improvements. Fig. 2 is a cross section through the blade port-ion of the razor. Fig. 3 is a top plan View of Fig. 1 and Fig. 4: illustrates a modified form of razor.
Similar characters of reference denote like parts in all the figures.
Referring to the drawing A represents the blade of a. razor. The tang portion D is laterally bent under an obtuse angle in an upward direction and extends into the portion O which is bent again so that it is in a parallel plane to the razor blade or nearly so. The handle B which may be of ivory, celluloid, horn or other suitable material is secured to the extension G of the tang D in the usual manner. The handle B thus is inclined in an upward direction by virtue of the tang D which is bent upwardly under an obtuse angle relative to the blade and is therefore in such a position thereto that the blade must be placed properly onto the face so that the razor may be used by quite inexperienced persons. The blade A is relatively short as compared with an ordinary razor blade. Thus a limited portion of the face only comes in contact with the blade covering a limited surface during each stroke in the same manner. A safety comb or guard E is slipped over the blade in the usual manner to prevent injury to the user of the razor in the event of careless handling.
A modified form of razor is shown in Fig. 4. In this form the blade A, the tang D bent as above described and the handle B are made of one piece of metal. Thus an extra handle is dispensed with.
The angular position of the handle B relative to the short blade A and the provision of the tang D bent under an obtuse angle in an upward direction insure a correct placing of the razor on any part of the face during use.
I claim as my invention.
1. A. razor comprising a hollow ground razor blade with tang bent laterally under an obtuse angle in an inclined upward direction, and a handle extending in the same inclined upward direction and bent so that it is nearly parallel to the blade, and means for guarding the blade during use.
2. A razor with handle comprising a 1101- low ground short razor blade, a tang formed thereon bent laterally under an obtuse angle in an inclined upward direction relative to the blade, and a handle formed integrally therewith bent under a like obtuse angle in the same inclined upward direction so that it is parallel with the blade, and means for guarding the blade during use.
Signed at Leipzig, Germany this 19th day of March 1910.
GUSTAV JANNERT.
