UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MYER KAMENSTEIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
TOY CANISTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 13, 1911.
Patented Sept. 19, 1911.
Serial No. 626,987.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MYER KAMENSTEIN, a citizen of Russia, residing at New York city, county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Toy Canister, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a toy canister of novel construction, which is composed of a minimum number of parts and may be manufactured at small cost.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a plan of a toy canister embodying my invention; Fig.2 a side view thereof; Fig. 3 a section on line 3-3, Fig. 1; Fig. 4: an enlarged section on line 14, Fig. 2, and Fig. 5 a similar section on line 5-15, Fig. 2 with the lid opened.
The canister comprises a sheet metal box havin a front 10, back 11, top 12, bottom 13 an sides 14. Of these, front 10 is shorter than back 11, while top 12 is shorter than bottom 13 to form an opening at the upper front section of the box. Along this open section each side 14: has a rounded edge and in parallelism with said edge there extends an inwardly projecting bead 15, said bead being continued rearwardly a distance beneath top 12 as at 15 This rearward eX- tension 15 of bead 15 terminates a distance in front of back 11, so that a clearance is formed therebetween. Between top 12 and front 10, there is further formed on each side 14: above bead 15, a parallel curved groove 16 which opens inwardly and has a top flange 17 of substantial width, the groove terminating at the forward edge of cover 12. This inwardly extending groove 16 constitutes the guide for a curved sliding lid 18 having knob 19. When the lid is closed (Fig. 2) it will be supported within groove 16, while when the lid is opened, (Fig. 5) it will be supported upon the rearward extension 15 of bead 15. It will thus be seen that the lid is operably attached to the box without any additional rails whatever, the guides for the lid being formed exclusively by the sides 14; themselves.
In assembling the parts, the lid is passed upwardly through the gap between beadsections 15 and back 11, and is thence run along the top of the bead, until it enters the rear ends of grooves 16. Of course knob 19 is applied to the lid subsequent to the introduction of the latter into the box.
The handles 20 of the box are passed at each end beneath a pair of ears 21 integral with sides 14:, and formed by a pair of parallel slits 22 between which the metal is slightly bulged outward as shown.
I claim:
A toy canister comprising a sheet metal box having a top, a front spaced therefrom, a back, a pair of sides, said sides having curved grooved sections between front and top that terminate at the forward edge of the top, and also having curved beads that extend beneath the top and terminate at a distance from the back to form a clearance, and a curved lid adapted to be passed through said clearance and to engage the beads and grooved sections of the sides.
MYER KAMENSTEIN.
