SUPPORTING-RACK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application Afiled May 2, 1911.
Patented Aug. 29, 1911.
Serial No. 624,601.
To all 'it may :coa-cern:
Be it known-that I, GORDON WINTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hephzibah, in the county of Richmond, State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Impuovements in Supporting-Racks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appert-ains to make and use the same.
This racks.
provision of a supporting rack which may e easily associated with a supporting part whereby the rack is held in fixed position, and when so associated will efficiently serve the purposes for which it is intended.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a supporting rack which mayl be easily secured to a window frame wit out interfering when in position, with the free manipulation of the sash and shutters of the window.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more full; described and particularly pointed out in t e appended claim.
In describingfthe invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of a window having a supporting rack constructed in accordance with the invention secured to the frame. Fig. 2 a side view of what is shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 a section on the line 3---3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 1 a detail perspective view showing the connection between the frame members of the rack, the latter being shown in full lines in contracted position and in dotted lines in an expanded position. Fig. 5 a detail perspective view of the crown bracket carried by the frame of the rack. Fig. 6 a detail perspective view of one ofthe adjustable brackets carried by the rack, and Fig. 7 a detail erspective view of another form of adjusta le bracket for use with the rack.
Referring to the drawin A indicates a window frame which inclu es side members 10 and l11, and a sill- 12. Mounted in the invention relates to supporting f t 1 of the rack, while the other member 21 of The object of the invention resides in thev frame A is the usual sash 13. Secured to the sill 12 and projecting inwardly of the window fiame are supporting blocks 14 and 1 5 provided. with openings 16 and 17 respectively disposed in convergence with respect to each other. Mounted in the block 11i and movable into and out of the opening 16 is a binding screw 18 while another bind: ing screw 19 is mounted. in the block 15 and is movable into and out of the opening 17. Movably mounted in the opening 16 is one of the members 2O of the supporting frame said supporting frame is movably mounted in the opening 17. These members 20 and 21 converge upwardly :and are connected t0- gether at their meeting ends by a flexible plate 22, the terminals of which latter are ixedly secured to the' members 20 and 21 That portion of the plate 22 respectively. which'ff'r disposed upon the outer face of the member 20 is folded upon itself vto form a lateral extension 23, while the portion of said plate 22 disposed upon the member 21 is folded upon itself to form a lateral extension 24 positioned correspondingly to the extension 23 but in opposition to said last named extension. Removable upon the apex formed at the meeting ends of the members 20 and 21 is a crowned bracket B which is provided in its lower face with a centrally disposed recess 25 in which the apex previously referred to seats. A binding 4screw 26 mounted in the crown bracket B serves to hold said bracket against disengagement from the frame of the rack, while the lateral extensions 23 and 24 of the plate 22 support said bracket against lateral tilting. Mounted upon the frame members 20 and 21 Iis a. plurality of adjustable brackets C each of which is provided with an opening 27 through which respective members 2() and 21 extend. Each of the adjustable brackets C have mounted therein a binding screw 28 for movement into and out of the opening 27. Through the manipulation of the binding screw 28 the brackets C may be secured in any desired adjusted position upon the respective members 20 and 21.
The shape of the adjustable brackets C may be varied as desired according to the particular purpose they are to serve. In ig. 7 there 1s illustrated an adjustable bracket .which is. particularly adapted for supporting shoes and has its supportin face 'provided with a ridge 30 which is a apted bracket may beutilized are of a varied nature, such as holding potted flowers, books, papers and other articles and it will therefore be understood that the invention is not limited to any particular use and that vari-v ous changes in the details of construction and thearrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the scope of the appended claim. J What is claimed is: Y A deviceI of the class described, compris. ing a V-shaped frame formed of a air of arms disposed in convergence and aving their meeting ends connected together by a flexible member having that portion disposed on the outer faces of said arms folded upon itself to form lateral extensions respectively, a pair of supporting blocks provided with means for attachment to a fixed part and having openings therein respectively in which the respective arms of the V-shaped frame are removably mounted, means for securing the arms of said frame against movement in the openings of said supporting blocks, a crown bracket having a recess in its lower face in which the meeting ends of t-he frame arms seat, the lateral portion of the lower face of said crown bracketresting upon the lateral extensions of said iieXible members, means for holding the meetin ends of the frame arms against remova from the recess in the crown bracket and a plurality of' brackets adjustably supported upon the arms of the frame.
In testimony whereof, I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
