Description

v N. PETERS. PHOTLXLITHOGMPMER. WASHINGYON. D C.
HELEN EKIN STABEETT, OE LAWRENCE, KANSAS.
Letters .Patent No. 100,207, dated Febfrzuiy 22,1870.
IMPROVED FASTENIN G- FOR OVERSHOES.
y Th'e'Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part ofthe same.
To all 'whom t 'may conce/rn- Y Be it known that I, Mrs. HELEN EKIN STARRETT,
of Lawrence, in the county of Douglas, and State of Kansas, have invented a new and improved Fastening for Rubber Shoes; and Iv do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation oi' the same, reference being hadto the accompanying' drawings making a part of this specification, in Which-"- Figure l is a longitudinal vertical section, showing the loop fastened in the insole, and the strap -passed through the loop, and through the elastic cord; and
Figure 2 is a transverse vertical section, showing the strap glued to the inside of the month of the shoe, and also the strap passed behind the counter. y
This invention consists in straps seciired at their lower endsfto the inside .of an overshoe, and intended to be fastened over the top of the-foot'iu any suitable manner, for the purpose otlret-aining the shoe thereupon. fl
In the drawings- A is the shoe, and c a, the strap. In iigzl, the strap is shown as passing underaloop, b, strongly secured in the insole b', before the latter is glued to the shoe.
The ends of the s trap are drawn up over the wearers foot, and secured together by buckle, button, hook, loop, or the like.
Ali-elastic band, b', aiix'ed transversely to the 11pper side of the insole, serves to retain Vthe strap when not in use.
In iig. 2, two other methods of securing the strap, to the shoe are shown, one ot'which consists in gluing two short straps a a, lone to either side of the mouth. l*
of the shoe, said straps to be fastened over the topof the foot in a' similar manner, aslbefore described;
The other method is that ot' a continuous strap, a, passed behind the counter or under the heel,and fastened over the top of the foot.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is r The combination of the rubber overszhoe A and strap a., when the latter is arranged to pass under the heel of the wearer, and adapted to beffolded and secured to the innei'sole of the shoe, when not required for use, as and for the purpose set forth. Mns. HELEN EKIN STARRETT.
