OIL-CUP ATTACHMENT. 7
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Au. 15, 1911.
Application filed June 14, 1910. Serial No. 566,851.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSHUA HoLDswoRTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invent-ed a new and useful Improvement in Oil-Cup Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in oil cups used in connection with a brush for oiling bearings of all kinds, the object being to provide a cup with a cleaner, whereby the brush can be kept clean, thereby overcoming the difiiculties now existing, as the brush soon becomes full of waste from the bearing, so that it is impossible to put pure oil on a bearing.
Another object of my invention is to provide a cleaner which can be easily and quickly attached to the oil cup, whereby the brush used for oiling the bearings can be quickly cleaned by drawing the same over the cleaner, so as to remove the waste and dirt therefrom, thereby enabling the person using the same to accomplish a great amount of work. I
A still further object of my invention is to provide a cleaner having a series of pointed pins or teeth so arranged that they will pass through the bristles of the brush in order to remove all foreign matters therefrom.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fullydescribed and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawing forming a part of this specification: Figure 1 is a perspective view of an oil cup showing a cleaner attached thereto. Fig.2 is a vertical sect-ion;
In carrying out my improved invention I employ an oil cup of the ordinary construction comprising a tray A having a handle for carrying the same and, provided with an oil cup B having a flanged edge B and in which oil is adapted to be placed for oiling bearings on machinery through the medium of a brush which is dipped into the oil and placed on the bearing.
Connected to the outside of the can is my improved cleaner D which is arranged on the can or cup in such a position in respect to the handle that the operator can draw the oiling brush over the cleaner in such a manner that the foreign substances will be removed from the bristles and de posited into'the tray.
My improved cleaner comprises a head member E having a series of teeth F/ extending therefrom which are preferably formed of pointed pins as clearly shown of such a length that they will pass into the brush a suflicient distance to remove the waste therefrom, and said head is secured in position on the cup or can by rivets or bolt-s F.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided an oil cup with a cleaner which will enable a person to keep the oiling brush clean at all times, thereby saving a great deal of oil and at the same time keeping the lubricating oil clean from foreign substances.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to se cure by Letters Patent is As a new article of manufacture, an oil cup comprising a tray having a central vessel arranged thereon, a cleaner comprising a head secured to said vessel by rivets or bolts, said head being provided with a series of pointed teeth.
JOSHUA HOLDSWORTH.
