Abstract

A method for manufacturing a modified atmosphere and microwaveable self-venting packaging composite film for fresh vegetable produce shelf-life extension. The composite film comprises a base layer material with the first set of plurality of micro gaps, which adheres to another sealing layer through an adhesive layer. The second set of plurality of micro gaps is formed through the thickness direction on the composite film. It provides a specific transferring rate of oxygen and carbon dioxide. Especially, it provides a controllable dynamic equilibrium oxygen and carbon dioxide concentration to extend the shelf life of fresh produce, which is packed either in a container with a lidding or packed in a bag. The fresh produce pack can be directly cooked with microwave oven without pre-opening the package. The build up hot pressurized steam can be regulated by plural microgaps along the base layer film without bursting the closed pack film of the package. Moisture preservation is another feature with this film during microwave heating, composite film prevents the packed fresh vegetable from drying and losing the flavor.
