Abstract

To provide a washing machine, in which foreign matters, refuse, dust, etc. is less liable to enter, handleability is good and sufficient drying performance is obtained, with respect to the washing machine having a simple drying function by air. The washing machine includes therein an outer tub (16), an inner tub (18) positioned inside the outer tub (16) and a drive (26) for rotate-driving the inner tub (18) and has a cover member (cover 28) provided above the outer tub (16), wherein the cover member is provided with a vent hole (32) and a vent hole cover (33) for covering the vent hole (32) except for a part of the peripheral side. Thus, the cover (33) prevents the foreign matters, refuse, dust, etc. from entering into the vent hole. Furthermore, during drying operation, sufficient air is sucked through an opening (34) positioned at a part on the peripheral side of the vent hole (32) without opening the vent hole cover (33). Thus, the handleability is good, and the sufficient drying performance is obtained.
