Abstract
In a sleeve 10, a portion of the sleeve which extends from the crankcase side surface 26 to the approximately center of the cylinder block 21 is formed into the thick wall portion 13 which is thicker than other portions, and the water jacket 23 having a U-shaped cross section which extends from the approximately center of the cylinder block 21 and opens at the cylinder-head side end surface 22 is formed in the cylinder block 21 such that the water jacket 23 surrounds the sleeve 10. Since it is unnecessary to reduce the cross-sectional area of the water jacket, the rigidity of the sleeve can be increased without reducing the cooling ability of the cylinder block and can reduce the deformation of the sleeve when the cylinder block is fastened with the fastening members. Accordingly, the frictional force between the piston and the sleeve can be reduced and the increase of the blowby flow rate and the oil consumption can be suppressed.
