Abstract

A method of directly casting liquid metal into a continuous metal rod, which comprises: controlling the supply of liquid metal to a cast container so as to supplement a liquid metal with a free upper surface at an approximately homogeneous flowrate and temperature from an outlet end of the container which is roughly on a level with an adjacent non-contacting cast surface layer; substantially moving upward the cast surface layer over the outlet end, in which the cast surface layer comprises a single surface of cylindrical roll circling an ordinate approximately horizontally arranged in order to provide primary cooling function required by the solidification of the liquid metal; arranging the container adjacent to the cast roll, and maintaining the level of liquid metal on the outlet end of the container close to the top of the cast roll, and maintaining the surface tension on top, bottom and sides of the liquid metal; approximately horizontally separating the cast rod from the top of the cast roll while the belt is at a semi-solid state with a non-solid upper surface; and providing a second cooling of the continuous cast rod so as to solidify the belt after it has moved away from the cast surface layer.
