Apparatus for inductively heating metal can lids includes high-permeability, low-conductivity cores having at least two magnetically opposite polar portions both directed toward a conveyance path for the can lids. High-frequency AC currents are applied to the windings of the cores, thereby inducing AC heating currents in the can lids and heating them sufficiently to drive off moisture. The cores may be E-shaped, and may be disposed in modules at various longitudinal positions along the conveyance path and/or radial positions around the conveyance path. Closed-loop temperature control apparatus may also be included to prevent overheating of the can closures in the envent of unintended stoppage of the production line.
