Abstract

The furnace consists essentially of two linear motor field windings (4) arranged vertically face to face to form a corridor (2) in which is arranged the article to be heated (1). Each field winding produces a vertically sliding magnetic field. The ends of the corridor can be opened to allow horizontal circulation of the articles and the field windings can be moved sideways so as to be able to vary the length of the corridor. Through this arrangement, the furnace can be inserted without difficulty into the lines for treating and handling these articles. This furnace is particularly well suited to the heating of steel slabs. <IMAGE>
