Abstract

1384929 Apparatus for inductive heating AEG-ELOTHERM GmbH 19 Sept 1972 [23 Sept 1971] 43407/72 Heading H5H [Also in Division C7] In order to define the length of a workpiece 1 (e.g. an axle), to be heated by inductor conductors 4 extending longitudinally of the workpiece, a closed loop 10 is arranged to be axially adjusted with reference to the end of the workpiece 1 in response to the position of a rotating device 2 for the workpiece, electric power being induced into the closed loop 10 from the surrounding portions 5 of the connecting cross conductors for the conductors 4. Lamination 13 or core may be provided to improve coupling. The loop 10 is mounted on an insulating block 16 axially slidable along rods 19 and biased towards the end of the workpiece. A stop 24 ensures that the loop 10 is displaced against the bias when the rotating end 22 of the locating device 2 engages the end of the workpiece. The dimensions of the loop 10 and conductors 5 is such as to ensure constant coupling' within the range of adjustment. The loop may be alternatively secured to the locating device 2. All the conductors are of hollow rectangular section copper and may carry coupling fluid (via connectors 12 for loop 10).
