Abstract

Provided are a tetraphenyl ethane derivative represented by the following formula (1), a method for producing the same, a use of the tetraphenyl ethane derivative as a radical generating agent, a thermosetting liquid crystal sealing agent comprising the tetraphenyl ethane derivative and especially useful for liquid crystal dripping process, the radical generating agent having an excellent radical generating ability without inducing foaming, and when used in the liquid crystal sealing agent, thus having a long pot life, and excellent seal forming ability and gap forming ability, without any liquid crystal contamination. (wherein, Y1 and Y2 each independently represents a hydrogen atom, a phenyl group or a silicon atom, R1 to R6 each independently represents a hydrogen atom or a linear or branched C1 to 4 alkyl group, X1 to X4 each independently represents a hydrogen atom, a methyl group, a ethyl group, a methoxy group, an ethoxy group, a phenoxy group, or a halogen group. Provided that, when Y1 or Y2 is hydrogen atom, the R1 to R3 or R4 to R6 bonding toY1 or Y2 does not exist, and Y1 and Y2 are not both hydrogen atoms at the same time.
