Abstract

A process and system for producing an optical display unit. The process and the system can attain a reduction in the cost of producing the optical display unit. A release film having a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer formed on a surface thereof is applied to a strip-form optical film at least one side of which is a nontacky surface, in such a manner that the release film is applied to the nontacky surface of the optical film through the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer. Thereafter, the release film applied to the optical film is separated from the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer, and the optical film is laminated to a display substrate through the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer. Consequently, there is no need of preparing an optical film having a release film applied thereto beforehand, and a stripper for stripping the release film applied beforehand from the optical film is also unnecessary. Therefore, the cost of producing the optical display unit can be reduced.
