Abstract

Disclosed is a silicon-containing liquid crystal aligning agent which enables to produce a liquid crystal alignment film having good liquid crystal alignment and high voltage holding ratio during device operation at a low frequency under high temperature conditions. Also disclosed is a method for producing such a silicon-containing liquid crystal aligning agent. Specifically disclosed is a liquid crystal aligning agent characterized by containing the following polysiloxane (A) and polysiloxane (B). Polysiloxane (A): a polysiloxane obtained by polycondensing an alkoxysilane containing an alkoxysilane represented by the following formula (1). R1Si(OR2)3 (1) (In the formula, R1 represents an organic group having 8-30 carbon atoms, and R2 represents a hydrocarbon group having 1-5 carbon atoms.) Polysiloxane (B): a polysiloxane obtained by polycondensing an alkoxysilane containing a tetraalkoxysilane represented by the following formula (2). Si(OR3)4 (2) (In the formula, R3 represents a hydrocarbon group having 1-5 carbon atoms.)
