Abstract

This invention provides a supporting member 1, formed by a hollow pipe, which is held in a horizontal direction when being used. This supporting member 1 has a hollow elliptic section and includes a base pipe 2 made of reinforced fiber composite resin material other than carbon fiberswith a hollow circular section, and a reinforced layer (3) made of carbon fiber reinforced resin material and formed on the outer surface of the base pipe 2 at the positions vertically upside and downside of the base pipe 2 as the supporting member is being used. By using such a supporting member 1, it is possible to greatly reduce the amount of carbon fibers, especially highly elastic carbon fibers being used while maintaining the mechanical strength such as bending characteristic owned by a conventional CFRP supporting member.
