Abstract

To provide a water repellent capable of imparting excellent water repellency to textile or a water repellent which little adheres to a finger when the water repellent applied to textile is touched with the finger. The water repellent consists of (a) hydrophobic silica ultrafine particles having a mean primary particle diameter of below 30nm, (b) a film-forming titanium alkoxide or a partial condensate thereof formed through hydrolysis, and c a dispersion medium for dispersing the hydrophobic silica ultrafine particles. Aerosil R812, Aerosil R974, and Aerosil RY200, which are products of Nippon Earojiru Kabushiki Kaisha, can be used as the hydrophobic silica ultrafine particles, while titanium tetraisopropoxide, titanium tetrabutoxide, titanium tetra-2-ethylhexoxide, and partial condensates thereof formed through hydrolysis can be used as the film-forming titanium alkoxide. The dispersion medium is isohexane, isooctane, or isononane. The water repellent is substantially free from the components other than the components (a) to (c).
