Abstract

The present invention is to provide a rolling control device and a method for controlling a rolling operation, by which the distribution of the thickness of a strip in the width direction can be accurately controlled at the end portions of the strip, and further to provide a rolling apparatus. In the control of the edge drop by shifting an upper roll and a lower roll in their axial directions, the difference in the rolling states at the driving side and the operating side of the rolling mill is detected. When the difference is large, indicating the asymmetry is large, the shifting operation of the upper and lower rolls is restricted. Specifically, the shifting operation for the upper and lower rolls is restricted using the differential load or the differential tension or both. By the present invention, the control of the edge drop can be improved because the control is carried out by shifting the upper and lower rolls to a maximum to suppress the zigzag motion and the fracture of the strip.
