Abstract
The present invention provides a ferritic stainless steel wire and wire rod excellent in corrosion resistance, cold-rolling ability and toughness having reduced surface defects and magnetic property for obtaining the same quality of an austenitic stainless steel wire and wire rod production method with the reduced cost. This ferritic stainless steel wire and wire rod contains, in terms of mass, C: 0.003- 0.04%, Si: 0.05- 1.0%, Mn: 0.05- 0.5%, P: less than 0.04%, S: less than 0.005%, Cr: 10.5- 18.0%, O: less than 0.010%, N: 0.003- 0.04%, and optionally contains one or more of Nb: 0.1- 0.8%, Ti: 0.01- 0.5%, and further optionally contains one or more of Al: less than 0.1%, V: 0.03- 1.0%, and satisfy the equations of [Al] x [N] ≤ 0.0020, [V] x [N] ≤ 0.016 and [Mn] + [Cr] + [Si] ≤ 20%.
