Abstract
A fire-detecting device for ventilated appliances or machines (1) has a measurement chamber (2) through which flows the main current of cooling air or a representative fraction thereof, and at least one detector (12, 13) of a fire characteristic quantity arranged in the air flow within the measurement chamber (2) and connected for example by an electronic circuit to an alarm, extinguishing and/or switching off device. In order to shorten detection time and to increase the reliability of the fire detection in ventilated appliances or machines, for example EDP-appliances or similar electronic devices, the measurement chamber (2) is designed as a chimney whose cross-sectional opening lies on a partial cross section of the air outlet (6) of the ventilated appliance or machine (1). In an alternative embodiment, the measurement chamber (2) is designed as a flat box open on both sides ends and linked by its open frontal side to the outlet of an outgoing air channel (14) which is also designed as a box and lies on the air outlet (6) of the ventilated appliance (1).
