Abstract

The extraction process from tamarind leaves for weed control involves the following steps: Tamarind leaves are chopped and dried, then finely ground and soaked in water at a ratio of 1:2 by weight to volume (W/M). The extracted water is then vaporized using a centrifuge to obtain tamarind leaf extract. A concentration of 50 g/L of tamarind leaf extract can inhibit the germination and seedling growth of four weed species (barnyard grass, weed rice, green spinach, and red spinach), achieving the highest average results (87.53-100% inhibition of germination and seedling growth).

Selecting the complete and damaged parts of the tamarind leaf, removing them. a. After drying, chop the tamarind leaves and dry them in an oven at 60 degrees Celsius for 3 days. Weigh 1,000 grams. b. Grind the dried tamarind leaves from step a finely by grinding them in a blender. Then, soak them in pure water at a ratio of 1,000 grams of dried tamarind powder to 2,000 milliliters of water (weight/volume), and let it sit for 3 days. After that, filter the soaked tamarind leaf extract twice using cheesecloth until you obtain the tamarind leaf extract. c. Evaporate the solvent from the tamarind leaf extract obtained from step b using a rotary vacuum evaporator. d. Store the tamarind leaf extract in a dark glass bottle and seal it tightly.
