Description
The invention relates to the processing of materials with a heated cutting zone by an arc discharge and can be used for blade processing of metals.
The aim of the invention is to reduce the energy intensity of the process.
The goal is achieved due to the heating of the cutting zone by the focused energy of light that periodically arises from the electric arc.
The drawing shows a diagram of the implementation of the method of metal cutting.
The processing according to the proposed method is carried out as follows.
The preform 1 is machined with a cutter 2. The chip 3 which is formed thereby is fed through the guide tube 4 to the discharge electrodes 5 connected to a pulsed power source. The current pulse from the power source causes an electric arc discharge between the chip 3 and the electrodes 5 in zone 6. The trimmed piece of chip falls into the chip acceptor. During the electric arc discharge, the energy emitted as a flash of light is focused by the reflector 7 into the light spot 8 with a high concentration of energy on the surface of the workpiece 1 before the cutting blade of the cutter 2. As a result, the surface layer of the workpiece softens after the cutting edge of the weakened area from the power source A new current pulse is applied, causing the next electric arc discharge, and the cycle is repeated again.
In order to ensure high tool life, it is necessary that the pulse frequency from the power source is not lower than the threshold value, at which the softened areas of the surface still intersect. Otherwise, i.e., when the areas warmed by the light spot alternate with the cold, the cutter will occur significant
This will reduce tool life.
The minimum required frequency of the current pulses from the power source can be determined by the time the cutting edge of the softened section passes from the expression
