Abstract
This invention relates to metallurgy, in particular to the production of high purity magnesium. The purpose of the invention is to increase the purity of the metal by reducing the nitrogen content. Primary magnesium is loaded into the retort and sublimated under vacuum. The vapors are condensed in a water-cooled condenser in the form of small crystals with a higher specific surface and increased activity. After cooling the condensate to 20-50 ° C, it is treated with argon containing 2-5 g / m 3 of oxygen or 6-10 g / m 3 of water vapor. In this case, molecules of argon and oxygen are adsorbed on the surface of magnesium and a thin film of magnesium oxide is formed, which passivates the metal surface. As a result, when the condensate is unloaded and in contact with air, the nitriding of the resulting metal does not occur. 1 tab.

This invention relates to metallurgy, in particular to the production of high purity magnesium.
The aim of the invention is to increase the purity of the metal by reducing the nitrogen content.
The method is carried out as follows.
The tests were carried out in a laboratory setup consisting of a retort, a condenser and a small electric furnace. A glass of magnesium in the source is placed in the retort. After mounting the condenser, the apparatus is pumped out and the magnesium is sublimated when the electric furnace is turned on and cooling water is supplied to
At the end of the process, the retort is cooled, argon containing oxygen or water vapor is set into a condenser, and dismantled in an atmosphere containing N. The condensate is analyzed for nitrogen content.
The conditions of the process and the results obtained are shown in the table.
During the process of sublimation, most of the impurities remain in the sediment, including titanium nitrides. After sublimation, pure metallic magnesium is obtained in the form of fine crystals with a higher specific surface, with
