Description

The known methods of photometricization of paintings are characterized by projecting the image of the painting onto an opaque plane with a narrow rectangular slit. The light passing through the slit hits the photocell included in the measuring circuit with a pointing device at the output. Moving the image along the plane, separate sections of the image are sequentially superimposed on the slit and photometrically. Such methods do not provide sufficient measurement accuracy. When using them, a very bright light source is needed.

In order to increase the accuracy of measurements and reduce the requirements for the brightness of the light source according to the proposed method, the brightness or blackening of the annular portion of the measurable pattern is defined as the difference in brightness or blackening of two circular holes with radii corresponding to a larger and smaller ring curvature.

For the implementation of the described method, a device is provided that differs from the known ones in that it uses an iris diaphragm with a large number of petals, on the case of which there is a cheek with divisions, and on a crown bearing the petals, a pointer with a nonius.

The drawing shows such a diaphragm.

The image of the picture is fixed on a plane with a round hole. The diameter of the hole can vary smoothly within certain limits and is measured with greater accuracy. The light passing through the aperture hits the photocell connected to the pavement (capable of compensating the signal to zero value at any value) measuring circuit with a measuring device at the output.

The measurement is carried out as follows.

The picture of the picture is concentrically aligned with the hole. The hole is set to a certain diameter (usually the largest or smallest) and the circuit is balanced to zero.
