Description

When filling high-pressure discharge lamps with high-pressure nitrogen, hydrogen, helium, or other gases that do not liquefy at liquid nitrogen temperature, due to the inflation of the bobbin, the desoldering of lamps from the installation presents certain difficulties. Typically, the filling and dismounting of such lamps are carried out either under a hermetic cap or with a shtengel with a partition.

According to the proposed method, gas-discharge high-pressure quartz lamps are filled with gases that do not liquefy at liquid nitrogen temperature through the process of the ignition electrode, and the lamp is sealed by pouring this process with molten lead.

The drawing shows the discharge of a quartz lamp prior to sealing.

The lamp and its tap are filled as follows.

The molybdenum or tungsten wire /, which is the ignition electrode, is introduced into the lamp through a narrow capillary tube 2, which then expands into a special cavity 3. In the tube 4, through which the lamp is pumped out and filled with gas, several pieces of lead are preliminarily introduced. After the lamp is filled with gas to the required pressure, lead is melted, heating the tube 4 with a gas burner. Molten lead fills the capillary 2 and cavity 3 and after solidification creates a reliable seal that prevents gas from flowing out of the lamp. After that, tube 4 is cut off from the lamp in such a way that the end of the igniter electrode protrudes -2 mm from the lamp. The lamp base is produced in the usual way.

The proposed method of filling and tapping high-pressure gas-discharge quartz lamps reduces the size of the Lal {Py and increases its strength, since it is not necessary to make a separate inlet for a separate tapping tube.
